Shakespeare Lithographic Print

This is a lithographic block print. I started out with a 5x7 inch drawing in my sketchbook which was then inked and scanned. After that, I imported the file into Adobe Illustrator and using the pen tool, traced over the entire design to make it completely black and white. Then I printed out the design to scale and cut it out to exactly 5x7 inches. Placing the print facedown on the top of a blank lithographic block, I used an alcohol marker to redissolve the printer ink and re-adhere it to the top of the block print. Now with my design on the block, I was ready to start carving. Everything that was white needed to be chiseled away from the block, leaving everything in black raised.

After I was done chiseling out my design, I used a small rubber paint roller to apply ink to the top of my print block and then flipped it over and pressed it onto a piece of thick paper. This is the result!
